One thing older women can do to stay employed is travel. I had three major careers, I taught science for 18 years, retired, worked in a social services department 14 years. By then I was 70 years old. I had gained a lot of experience in social services cash and food assistance programs, I was able to work until 6 weeks before my 88th birthday by becoming a consultant for cash and food assistance computer programs and traveled both in California and extensively on the east coast. It was both my expertise and my willingness to travel where I was needed that kept me well paid and employed for the better part of 17 additional years,
No I really did retire in 2021. I have moved to a Senior Apartment. I do still get job offers, but I'll be 90 in March, I've worked since I was 17, I think that's enough (:-)
thanks Lindsay... it is so outrageous that midlifers are now being berated for having left the work force and told their skills are needed when most of us were told we were definitely surplus to requirements just when we were at our peak! Not that I am bitter or anything xxx
Thanks! I’ve been unable to work for far too long, medical issues. Hoping to be working from home part time by the new year ( thanks to a doctor who’s actually helping me heal). I am very behind on technology but am sure I can find something once the time comes!

How fascinating- and great advice on how to play to your strengths. Are you still working now??
