Goosebumps! I loved reading this thank you. I love the mosquito analogy and also like the concept of poetic activism https://www.newhistories.co.uk/poetic-activism/.

Have a fantastic break!

Love your writing and so agree about women. Only thing in this piece...we don't say 'committed' suicide anymore. Died by or took their own life..xx

Hi Eleanor, I’ve just become a paid subscriber after thoroughly enjoying my first read of your substack. I’d absolutely love a copy of the book you mentioned please - what is needed from me? Many thanks, Pippa - Founder of www.middleyearsmonday.com

P.S. please could you clarify… in the blurb about your paid substack subscription it says it includes a free book each month, but I’m wondering whether that only applies to your first 100 subscribers - and if so, whether you’re already over that number? Thanks!

Yes sorry for the confusion - Book Club is free but free book only for initial 100 subscribers x

This is another great read. I always used to describe my past female bosses as no better than their male counterparts. So interesting you’ve used the same analogy.

Very much enjoyed reading this Eleanor & often look & think fondly on Jane Fonda who certainly hasn’t allowed the passage of time to slow her down or to evolve. Sadly only too often women like talking about supporting women but in practise it’s a very small & clickey circle where most of us are t admired. I have seen it again & again in beauty & glossies - something that’s sadly becoming more, rather than less obvious. As to Pussy Riot, unfortunately many Russians don’t view them as heroic - their actions, like those of British protestors who try to destroy ancient masterpieces, are more to do with raising their own public profile, insulting people who are deeply religious & using completely inappropriate language - the tee that one of them recently gifted Madonna contains a vile swear word that no self-respecting person would use publicly.
