Queenager Careers: Your monthly Noon Jobs Board - companies waiting to hire you now!
We know recruitment algorithms knock out the 50plus which is why we have teamed up with 55 Redefined to bring you Queenager-friendly job opportunities
Dear Queenagers
Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine and making use of our Noon/55 Redefined Jobs Board. I’d love to hear your stories about how it has worked for you. Have you found that these age-accredited organisations that we are featuring have been more positive in the way that they processed your applications? Did you get interviews? Has anyone got a job? I really want to know how this is working for you, or rather, whether it is getting you working, or at least helping!
I was talking to an expert the other day who said that the algorithms often used in recruitment are basically there to say ‘NO’ – to filter out 90 per cent of the applicants, so the HR departments don’t have to. That’s why so many of us have that depressing experience of filling in endless online forms which just vanish into the void. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone! At the beginning of the pandemic I filled in endless forms and I never heard back from ANYONE. Talk about feeling done and on the scrapheap!!! That’s why I was so keen to set up our Noon/55Redefined JobsBoard. The idea is that this scheme gives you a way around algorithm hell. The companies we feature are actively recruiting the 50 plus cohort, particularly women. So your applications should ping through, even though your CV might have the kind of age, or ‘gap’ (because you took some time out) which the algorithms would usually weed out. So I would really appreciate any feedback – email me eleanor@inherspace.co.uk and tell me how it is out there! Positive or negative tell me how it has been!
We know that flexibility is super important to Queenagers (16 times more important than status according to our noon.org.uk research) so some of these are part time or hybrid.
So this month’s Age-friendly featured employer is the financial services firm Hargreaves Lansdown. They describe themselves as “the UK’s number one platform for private investors, having helped clients save time, tax and money on their investments for over 40 years. We aim to build long-term client relationships, so we listen and respond to clients’ needs, evolving our service and investment solutions in order to bring greater prosperity throughout every stage of their lives. To achieve our purpose, we place the client at the heart of what we do, becoming their trusted partner and financial champion.”

1. Helpdesk Consultant (part-time)
3. Head of Sales, Distribution & Marketing
4. Insight Experience for Women - London

And if you want to be really up to date with what is going on with everything Queenager and work then you might enjoy some of these articles:
I shared this article from Fortune magazine about why flexibility at work is a feminist issue (and also key for Queenagers too) on my LinkedIn earlier this week and it has had 90 reposts and over 50k views – I reckon it’s hitting a nerve. so I am sharing it with you here too!
And just so you know that this anti-ageism conversation is a global thing I’m introducing you to the brilliant Bonnie Marcus (a Queenager in the states who runs a brilliant podcast called Badass Women at Any Age here’s a link of me on it last year… - Badass Women at Any Age: Meet The Queenagers with Eleanor Mills on Apple Podcasts).
Last week she interviewed Silke Muenster Chief Diversity Officer at Philip Morris International, about that company’s new age focus. (Yes we know they sell cigarettes but they do other things too!)
We called our platform Noon because we know that in the 100 year life, 50 is only half way through – that there is, as our motto says, So Much More to Come (I think it’s like we are just sitting down to a lovely lunch, with booze and all our pals and we have the whole afternoon and evening ahead of us to enjoy ourselves). And just to reiterate that is not a pipe dream just look at what we can achieve at 100! Henry Kissinger who has achieved his century has just written a book called 'The Age of AI' – who said oldies were no good at tech?
Hope you have a good week, don’t despair there are jobs out there just waiting for you! And do tell me how you are getting on or how we could make this better for you! My email is eleanor@inherspace.co.uk.
All the best
Eleanor
