Kate Somerville talks to Noon, September 8th, 7 pm Insta live
So, hi there everyone! Hope you had a good summer.
And we are back with a bang!
It has been very hard for me to keep this under wraps. Because how do you follow perfumer Jo Malone, make-up artist Ruby Hammer and comedian Helen Lederer amongst brilliant other Queenagers for Noon’s beauty spectacular interview series: What’s in my Make-up Bag?
Well, I’m glad you asked.
Because it’s only Kate Somerville who will be joining me on the @uponnoon Instagram at 7pm UK time this Thursday 8th September where we go through her make-up bag (which is really just an excuse to talk about career, family, past, life lessons, what is coming next)– as well her pick of the top make-up products, why she uses them and how she found them. I find this is unexpectedly revealing! When Eleanor and I went to see Jo Malone we discovered she is quite the stylist, she spent ages getting everything lined up just-so for the photo. And when I did Noon Founder Eleanor I was surprised she hadn’t got Covid her make-up was all so ancient.
More seriously, we all spend money on this stuff and the point about this series is to hear from those who really know what actually works on Queenager skin.
We’ll be chatting about the amazing Brene Brown and what she calls the ‘vulnerability hangover,’ the power of a mentor and much more.
Kate is way more than a facialist and aesthetician, tending to the skin of Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson and many more. Her Kate Sommerville skincare is a brand us beauty Queenagers will not be without – just ask my mate beauty supremo Caroline Hirons.
Born on a farm in Fresno in small town California, Kate opened her first clinic in Hollywood in 2004 – an achievement that one might say was against the odds given that her mother was an alcoholic and heavy drug user who left when Kate was nine. She was bought up by her father but this was a world away from Melrose Place, the location of her first clinic.
“My past has taught me to never judge a book by its cover,” she says. “I think this is largely why I’ve been so successful with my celebrity clientele — I see them as humans and have never been wrapped up in the ‘celebrity.’ We all have different struggles, and everyone has a story behind them.”
I met Kate recently for the first time IRL on 12th July this year at a dinner at Claridges (quite easy to remember as it was my birthday and 50 people in the private dining room sang me Happy Birthday. Because I made them).
Having admired her career and skincare, the warmth and humour of this wonderful Queenager on my own big day made it even more special. I asked her if she would do this and immediately Kate said ‘yes’ with eyes that lit up at the suggestion!
Thank you all in advance for joining us and do please ask questions!
See you on Thursday over on the @uponnoon Instagram.
Love,
Beatrice

Yay! I absolutely adore her goat milk cleanser. 😍 I use it every single day.
